The Guanacaste region, Costa Rica
The Guanacaste region, Costa Rica
Guanacaste is one of
Costa Rica's seven provinces. Its capital is Liberia, which has an
international airport with several flights direct from many cities. Guanacaste is
located in the northwest of the country, on the Pacific coast. It is bordered
by Nicaragua to the north, by the province of Alajuela to the east, and by the
province of Puntarenas to the southeast. It is Costa Rica's least populated
province, but the one that offers warm, dry weather all year round, with the
exception of the rainy season in September and October.
The beaches of Guanacaste
Costa Rica's coastline is truly enchanting. From the Pacific to the Caribbean coast, it reveals a multitude of beaches, each more beautiful than the last. On the shores of the ever-popular Nicoya Peninsula, you'll find lovely family beaches where you can enjoy diving and a wide range of water sports in complete safety.
Are you a surfing enthusiast? Then don't miss the famous coastal village of Samara or the beaches of Manuel Antonio. Further south, Playa Uvita and Bahia Drake should delight travellers in search of wilderness.
If you head for the Caribbean coast, you'll be able to enjoy white sand and coconut palms along beautiful, wild stretches of sand. It's the perfect way to adopt the pura vida lifestyle, while soaking up the tropical sun.
The Coco/Ocotal region
The day at Playas del
Coco is relaxed, with plenty of activities to please all travelers, from
thrill-seekers to families.
Due to the popularity of the area, roads have been built through the village so you can easily access markets, stores, casinos and restaurants.
If you prefer to spend your day at the beach, you're in for a treat. The views are magnificent, as the region's tropical beaches are surrounded by hills.
You can also head to some of the nearby islands and national parks, where you can watch sharks snorkeling or encounter huge sea turtles nesting on the beach.
